Well, Project Rocket IS such a voice.
T.J. Minch, who paid his dues as part of Fearless Records' Knockout, and has since become lead singer of Chicago's Spitalfield (just signed to Victory Records) put together the (ahem) "Project" as a means to showcase his abilities as both singer/songwriter as well as musician. From solo performances as well as those backed by a group – T.J. rises far above the multitude of manufactured pop punk and emo boy bands with his ability to actually write well crafted songs and play a wide range of instruments...
Assembling, a backup group from members of pop punk band Fall Out Boy, as well as metal band 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Project Rocket blends the power-chord-pop arrangements of Weezer with the sensitivity and subtleness of Dashboard Confessional.
